CANTO JAZZ E IMPROVVISAZIONE
indagine sulla voce maschile
Gilgamesh Edizioni 2017
The book deals with jazz singing, improvisation, techniques and mechanisms of vocal production providing an important deepening of jazz vocality.
By thoroughly investigating six male voices (Chet Baker, Mark Murphy, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Bobby McFerrin, Kurt Elling) the author analyzes the improvisational and creative language for each of them (mode of emission and vocal technique, syllables, rhythmic analysis , melodic analysis, melodic-harmonic analysis).
The book contains 14 transcripts and analyzes of vowels only as well as a rich and detailed syllabic handbook for scat and a terminological glossary, in an attempt to draw a technical, descriptive and terminologically specific picture, in a coherent and as complete as possible way.
A one-of-a-kind analytical essay by topic, study and research approach, included in the top ten Italian jazz books in the 2017 JAZZIT Awards.
